CAEC Prep and Test Sites in Saskatchewan

In May 2024, the Canadian GED high school equivalency test was replaced with the Canadian Adult Education Credential, or CAEC.

The Canadian version of the GED test was a paper-based, outdated assessment that lacked specific information about Canadian cultures, history, geography, economy, traditions, and values.

Canada decided to design its own, made-in-Canada, top-quality high school equivalency credential: the CAEC (Canadian Adult Education Credential).

In this post, we list all CAEC prep and test sites in Saskatchewan. The new CAEC assessment is entirely computer-based and meets both educational requirements and industry standards, serving as a better alternative to the former paper-based GED exam.

The CAEC assessment is for adult learners who did not have the opportunity to complete their high school curriculum but need a secondary education credential.

The CAEC enables them to pursue college education, secure rewarding jobs, advance their careers, and access professional training programs, including apprenticeships.

Universities, colleges, employers, and Government agencies recognize the credential as equivalent to a standard Canadian high school diploma.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has also implemented the CAEC program within its High School Education Initiative (HSEI) to enable enlistees to earn a high school equivalency credential and advance their careers in the CAF.

The five independent CAEC subtests

The CAEC exam is tailored to the requirements and needs of Canadian adult learners, reflecting the diversity of Canadian perspectives and cultures. The examination is offered in English and French and consists of five modular subtests that cover these academic subject areas:

  • Language Reading
  • Language Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies
  • Science

The five independent CAEC subtests are delivered on a very user-friendly online platform and offer accommodations to candidates who require them. Please note that applications for accommodations must be made at least 60 days in advance!

The CAEC assessment is a challenging examination, and thorough preparation is essential. Many students can benefit from a good online CAEC prep course, such as the online program designed by Cansego.

Others, however, learn better when guided by an instructor. For these students, we have compiled this overview of CAEC prep and testing facilities in Saskatchewan.

CAEC registration

Before candidates can book their CAEC testing sessions, they need to register and create an account.

Registration must be completed in advance on the Vretta.com website. On the CAEC registration page, candidates must select “Saskatchewan” (under “Jurisdictions”) if they meet the CAEC eligibility criteria.

Although the CAEC exam is fully computer-based, it is not offered online. Test-takers must write the exam (one subtest at a time if wished) at an official CAEC testing facility in their province or territory.

For more information, visit the CAEC website at www.caec-ccea.ca.

CAEC eligibility

To be eligible for CAEC testing in Saskatchewan, applicants must

  • be Saskatchewan residents
  • not have completed their high school education or have a GED
  • be at least 18 years of age, though 17-year-olds may also qualify if they hold an Age Waiver Form

GED recognition

GED diplomas will continue to be accepted and recognized across Canada, and students who have already achieved passing scores on parts of the former Canadian GED test can transfer these results to the new CAEC assessment up to May 2027.

Holding the Canadian Adult Education Credential has so many advantages! As mentioned earlier, the diploma qualifies for a college education and better employment opportunities.
